jacyevans: (*yay!*)
I went to whedonesque tonight to check out the front page for any interesting news.

Oh. My. God. It was like Christmas. Cue the fandom-shaped flail fest.

First, we have the first trailer for Red Dawn (finally being released after being stuck in limbo since 2009 while MGM worked out their financial issues). Not only does the movie look kick ass, it also features a host of fandom-approved actors (most of whom I had no idea were involved in the film) - Adrienne Palicki, Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Josh Hutcherson, Isabel Lucas, and Chris Hemsworth. To name a few.

Then, there was the news that Joss Whedon will return to direct Avengers 2 and is adapting a tv show for Marvel in the Avengers universe. In addition, he's signed a three year contract with Marvel studios.

The Firefly panel has hit the net. Everyone is so adorably overwhelmed and moved and grateful.

Favorite cast ever. (And yes - I cried at the end.)

Oh my heart.

Live blogs are up of the Comic Con 10th Anniversary Firefly panel. More links can be found here, but here is a preview:

1:35: Jensen asks Whedon what the fans have meant to him. What happens next is one of the most emotionally moving moments I’ve seen at Comic-Con. Whedon struggles, or seems to, for the right words.

Somebody in the crowd yells out, “We love you!”

Whedon hears this, struggles some more.

And the crowd begins to applaud, and stand up. Soon the entire room is given an ovation. The cast stands up too. It’s possibly the most perfect way to end the panel.

Whedon takes the microphone. “Only an idiot would try to follow that with a sentence,” he says.

That’s precisely what I was thinking, but then Whedon follows with this:

“Only an idiot would actually try to follow that with a sentence. When you come out of a great movie, you feel like you're in that world. You come out of 'Brazil,' and suddenly everything is duct piping and everything's weird and too much. You come out of certain things, and the world has become that. When you're telling a story, you're trying to connect to people in a particular way... The way in which you guys have inhabited this world, this universe, have made you part of it, part of the story. You are living in 'Firefly.' When I see you guys, I don't think the show is off the air. I don't think there's a show. I think, that's what the world is like. I think there are spaceships, there are horses, and our story is alive.”

Brb, sobbing my eyes out.

Firefly 10th Anniversary Panel just announced at this year's San Diego Comic Con

If you need me I'll be over here, shaking and crying (and praying for a live feed.)

Sometimes you need to get away from ordinary expectations, but at the same time it’s very easy to be a lazy person and go, “I’m getting away from ordinary expectations by not doing my homework.” And with the way some classes are run, all of a sudden you find that, yes, you’ve just become a lazy person. You actually haven’t done anything awesome or disengaged or cool, you’ve just forgotten to do your homework. Again.

There are certain human truths, like death, that nobody gets to escape, and pain, which everybody not only feels but needs. You have to go through it. So for everybody, at some point—very often for teenagers—the world is a terrible place. The world is a giant, awful black hole of evil conspiracy. Sometimes that’s because you have perspective on what the world’s really like, and sometimes it’s because you’ve completely lost perspective and you’re having a terrible day. But not matter what, everybody shares that feeling, and life is kind of about your ways around that, your ways around certain truths.

Quite possibly one of the best interviews with Joss Whedon I've ever read. And a teenage girl is asking the questions. Funny and heartwarming and Joss is so unapologetically a feminist, and I love it. Screw The Avengers, I want Much Ado About Nothing right the hell now.

Joss Whedon is doing a modern take on "Much Ado About Nothing".

Why This Is Awesome:
1) News of it's existence was not released until last night, the last night of filming.
2) It was shot over a 12 day period on location in Santa Monica at Joss' house, just after shooting "The Avengers", in black and white.
2) THIS CAST LIST.

Here are some interviews. And the press release.

I CANNOT CONTAIN MY EXCITEMENT.

Joss Whedon, I love you. Not just because you created some of the most iconic characters in cult history, not because those same characters embody everything that was my experience growing up, but because of this. Because you care. Thank you, so very much.

In the same vein, I'd like to direct your attention to this post on tumblr (thanks to [livejournal.com profile] junesrose for the link <3) about the completely unrealistic way women's bodies are portrayed as "perfect", and this video, (thanks to [livejournal.com profile] unicornhime) a trailer for a documentary about the unrealistic perception of women through the media.

OMG!

Clearly, I need to start watching Glee.

Why, you ask?

BECAUSE JOSS THE BOSS WHEDON IS GOING TO BE DIRECTING AN EPISODE.

Link leads directly to Joss' comment over at the post Whedonesque :D

Hey kids and parents of kids and super-old, like ancestor-old-but-not-dead-yet-type people, just poking my oversized head in to say that the rumors are true... unless something very odd happens in the next few months, I will have the privilege of shooting an episode of GLEE. Why GLEE? Because I love cops, serial killers and gritty urban drama (I haven't seen the show yet). Why me? Because they're struggling and can't afford real directors.

And I love him ♥

Random question to the flist, especially those of you who are Joss Whedon fans.

Have any of you read "Fray" or the "Astonishing X-Men" comics? How are they? I was thinking of either getting them off Amazon, or going to the local comic store and seeing if they're in stock.
