LJ admits that they screwed up.

No shit. This isn't quite what I was expecting and reading through the comments... people aren't pleased.

We'll see what happens with these journals they say will be reinstated.

And I was just going to renew my paid account a few days ago...

As seen posted by [livejournal.com profile] photosinensis:

Article about the strikethrough by CNet in which the following statements were made (emphasis mine):

"Legal experts say LiveJournal is clearly not liable for fictional stories and related discussions posted by its users, thanks to a 1996 federal law immunizing Web-based discussion forums from lawsuits. "If the content is otherwise legal, then LiveJournal has no obligation to police its site or remove any legal content it finds," said Eric Goldman, who teaches at the Santa Clara University School of Law.

...

"Our decision here was not based on pure legal issues," countered Six Apart's Berkowitz. "It was based on what community we want to build and what we think is appropriate within that community and what's not. We have an awful broad range of discussions and topics and other things going on in LiveJournal, and we encourage other broad-ranging conversations on all sorts of topics. This was a specific case where we felt there was not a reason (for these journals to stay online)."

Nice. Very nice. -_-

When I first posted about [livejournal.com profile] fandom_counts, there were just over 175 members or so. Now, they're well on their way to 3,000. And that's just in a few hours.

Keep pimping this around. Like I've seen some others say, let's show LJ what will happen if they lose the members of fandom.

---

I'm also jacyevans over at GJ. Feel free to friend me if you've got one too, but I don't check it very often, and I've never updated.

However, I'll be sure to start checking it a little more often now.

Livejournal has over 13 million accounts. But how many of them are members of fandom?

[livejournal.com profile] fandom_counts. Let's find out for ourselves.
